MINSK, August 28. /Dunyo IA/. Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Belarus Nuriddin Mamazhonov met with the CIS Secretary-General Sergey Lebedev to discuss the republic's participation in multilateral cooperation within the framework of the Commonwealth, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

CIS Secretary-General noted that over the past decade, Uzbekistan's involvement in the activities of the Commonwealth has significantly expanded, with the country acceding to previously adopted documents and launching its own initiatives.

Among these initiatives, he highlighted the development of a “road map” for supporting special economic zones, the creation of a CIS venture platform to promote startups and innovations, as well as a program for the innovative development of the energy sector.

CIS Secretary-General also noted the role of Uzbekistan in the implementation of major projects. In 2024, Tashkent became the first Youth Capital of the CIS, in 2025 it hosted the first Forum of Regions of the CIS Member States, and in 2026 the country hosted the International Industrial Exhibition “INNOPROM. Central Asia” and the Forum “Innovative Industry of the CIS”.

During the meeting, it was noted that in 2027, the chairmanship of the CIS will transition to Uzbekistan. Republic will chair the Commonwealth for the second time, following its tenure in 2020.
