PARIS, August 6. /Dunyo IA/. UNESCO has announced the accession of the city of Kokand to the UNESCO Global Media and Information Literacy Alliance, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

UNESCO Global Media and Information Literacy Alliance is an international platform for exchanging experience, knowledge and practical approaches in the field of developing media and information literacy.

Alliance brings together government agencies, educational and academic institutions, libraries, museums, mass media, civil society organizations, youth associations, and other stakeholders, promoting the development of digital skills, information literacy culture and expanding access to modern educational and public outreach resources.

In an official letter, UNESCO confirmed the registration of Kokand in the UNESCO Global Alliance for Media and Information Literacy and expressed support for the city's participation in the activities of this international platform.

This decision is a practical result of the consistent work carried out in pursuance of the instructions of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to expand the international relations of the country's cities, promote their cultural and educational potential, and develop human capital, digital skills, youth policy, education, and public outreach.

Kokand's accession to the UNESCO Global Alliance is a recognition of the growing role of the historical cities of Uzbekistan in promoting modern international initiatives aimed at forming a sustainable, inclusive and responsible information environment.

Kokand's participation in the Alliance opens up additional opportunities for expanding international cooperation, exchanging experience with foreign cities and expert communities, gaining access to relevant UNESCO methodological materials, as well as promoting local initiatives in the field of media and information literacy.

This area is of particular importance in the context of promoting the UNESCO initiative “Media and Information Literacy Cities” (MIL Cities). This initiative is aimed at developing media and information literacy at the city level through the involvement of local government bodies, educational and cultural institutions, libraries, museums, mass media, youth organizations, civil society, families and local communities.

In this regard, Kokand will be able to utilize its rich historical, cultural, educational and social potential to implement public outreach, interactive, and cultural events aimed at developing critical thinking, digital culture, a responsible attitude towards information and the active participation of citizens, primarily youth, in public life.

Kokand's accession to the UNESCO Global Alliance for Media and Information Literacy also creates a foundation for the further positioning of the city among the active participants in the international MIL Cities movement and strengthening cooperation with UNESCO in the spheres of communication, information, education, culture and sustainable urban development.
