Uzbekistan showcases national experience at Geneva Business and Human Rights Forum

GENEVA, December 2. /Dunyo IA/. The Uzbek delegation took part in the 14th Annual Business and Human Rights Forum held in Geneva, highlighting the country’s ongoing efforts to integrate international human rights standards into its economic and corporate governance policies, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The Forum was organized by the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
The forum convened over 1,200 participants, including representatives from international organizations, government bodies, national human rights institutions, academic and expert communities, as well as business circles and non-governmental organizations.
The Uzbek delegation, led by Akmal Saidov, Director of the National Centre for Human Rights, took part in a dedicated panel session on “Safeguarding Business and Human Rights Achievements in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia Amid Political Crises” at the 14th Annual Business and Human Rights Forum in Geneva.
The session focused on examining current human rights challenges amid geopolitical instability and the evolving mechanisms of corporate accountability.
The discussion featured a number of experts representing the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights (UNDP), the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights, the National Commission for Human Rights of Greece, among others.
In his speech, Akmal Saidov presented Uzbekistan's national experience in integrating human rights standards into the business environment, as well as the measures being implemented within the framework of the national human rights strategy. Particular attention was paid to fostering a culture of respect for human rights in business, developing dialogue between the public and private sectors, as well as training personnel and improving the legal literacy of entrepreneurs.
The presentations by the session participants reaffirmed the need to maintain the progress achieved in the area of human rights and expand international cooperation, taking into account contemporary challenges.
