BUDAPEST, July 20. /Dunyo IA/.   Prime Minister of Hungary Péter Magyar, intends to propose that Judit Polgár, the strongest female chess player in history, assume the office of the President of the country, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

According to the Head of Government, the nation requires a president capable of unifying society and representing all citizens.

“Our country needs unity, peace and a president whom every Hungarian can be proud of. The office of the President of the Republic is neither a profession nor a job, but the highest form of service. The duty of the president is to serve and represent all Hungarians”, - Prime Minister wrote on his official “Facebook” account.

He added that he would meet with Judit Polgár today to ascertain her readiness to assume the office pending the adoption of the new Constitution.

Judit Polgár is widely recognized as the most successful female chess player in history. She remains the only woman to transcend the 2700 Elo rating threshold, topped the women's world rankings for 26 years, climbed to eighth place in the overall world rankings, and twice won the Chess Olympiad. She has no prior involvement in political activity.

In early July, Péter Magyar published a photograph of himself playing chess with Judit Polgár, which sparked widespread speculation in Hungary regarding the athlete's potential nomination to the highest state office.

Subsequently, the incumbent President, Tamás Sulyok, signed the 17th Amendment to the Constitution, effectively terminating his presidential powers. Pending the election of a new Head of State, the Speaker of the Parliament, Ágnes Forsthoffer, will serve as Acting President for a one-month interim period.

Yesterday, 16 prominent representatives from the fields of science, culture, and sports sent a joint letter to the Speaker of the Parliament proposing the nomination of Judit Polgár for the presidency. Concurrently, the “Ügyvédkör” association announced the nomination of attorney Péter Bárándy as a candidate for the same office.
