Foreign seeds will be tested in cotton cultivation

TASHKENT, December 4. /"Dunyo" IA/. Minister of Agriculture Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, who arrived in the Andijan region on a business visit, met with Chinese investors, reports a Dunyo news agency correspondent.

According to the information of the press service of the government of the Republic of Uzbekistan, extensive work is being carried out in this regard by scientists and scientific staff of the research institute. The main goal of this is to ensure that the cotton growing in the fields of our country is of equal benefit to both the farmer and the cluster.

In this regard, a number of meetings, negotiations and practical meetings are being organized. This was discussed at the meeting of the Minister of Agriculture Ibrahim Abdurakhmanov, who came to Andijan region on a business visit, with Chinese investors.

The delegation consisting of representatives of "Tian Jiao Hong An" company led by Li Go Dong first presented information about the purpose of the visit and the scope of the projects. Starting from 2024, there is a contract to plant pepper on 400 hectares of land in Altinkol district of Andijan region. According to him, Chinese investors will plant 200 hectares of land, and local farmers will plant hot and sweet peppers on 200 hectares. A drip irrigation system will be introduced. As a result, 8 tons of harvest per hectare is expected.

In addition, it was stated that business entities of the PRC intend to invest in cotton production of Uzbekistan. For this purpose, it was said that it is possible to provide seeds that have been tested in the climate of Kashkar and Aksuv regions of China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.

The average ripening period of cotton in Uzbekistan is 120 days. Therefore, new varieties should take into account this aspect. Productivity and seed issues should also be studied separately. In this case, it is necessary to pay close attention to the principles of the yield obtained from each hectare, the seed obtained from it, and, most importantly, the principle of not increasing the price when it is sold to a local farmer. Only then will there be systematic work.

Another issue. This is the introduction of the technology of drip irrigation of cotton fields and the cultivation of products under film. In this regard, the Chinese delegation noted that it worked in the Syrdarya and Namangan regions during 2019-2023 and gained practical experience. This is a factor in choosing varieties suitable for our climate.
