Philadelphia Proclaims October 8 Uzbek American Heritage Day

A solemn ceremony marking the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence and the anniversary of the adoption of the national flag was held outside Philadelphia City Hall in Pennsylvania, where the State Flag of Uzbekistan was raised, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The event was jointly organized by the Embassy of Uzbekistan, the country’s Consulate General in New York, and the Vatan Global Alliance national center. It brought together representatives of U.S. official and business circles, Uzbek diaspora activists, compatriots and members of the local community.
One of the key highlights was the announcement of an official proclamation signed by the Mayor of Philadelphia declaring October 8 as Uzbek American Heritage Day in the city.
The proclamation recognizes Uzbekistan’s historical contribution to the development of the Great Silk Road and the rich cultural heritage of Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva. Particular attention is given to the achievements of the Uzbek people in architecture and craftsmanship, national traditions, and the Uzbek community’s contribution to Philadelphia’s social and cultural life.
The event is intended to further strengthen ties with the Uzbek diaspora in the United States, expand compatriots’ participation in the country’s public life, and promote a positive image of Uzbekistan among the American public.
