“Exact Press International”: Uzbekistan Doubles Freight Traffic Along the Trans-Caspian Route in Five Years

ISLAMABAD, October 18. /Dunyo IA/.   Pakistan’s “Exact Press International” has published an article highlighting the growth in Uzbekistan’s freight traffic along the Trans-Caspian route, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Article notes that shifts in global supply chains and expanding trade across Asia are driving demand for reliable transport routes. Predictable delivery times, competitive freight rates and dependable access to international markets are becoming increasingly important for businesses.

Against this backdrop, Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor, which connects China and Central Asia with Türkiye and Europe via the Caspian Sea and the South Caucasus, is emerging as an important area of regional cooperation.

For landlocked Uzbekistan, developing this route forms part of its strategy to diversify foreign trade routes. The country’s participation contributes to increasing the corridor’s capacity and strengthening transport links among Asian countries.

According to figures cited in the article, Uzbekistan’s freight traffic along the route reached 1.2 million tonnes in 2025, doubling over five years. The Middle Corridor’s share of Uzbekistan’s freight trade with the European Union increased from 12 per cent in 2021 to 28 per cent in 2025.

Article also identifies the “CASCA+” international multimodal route as an important mechanism for cooperation. It connects the Asia-Pacific region with Europe via China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye.

Particular attention is given to the strategic importance of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway for the development of the Trans-Caspian Corridor. Its development is seen as an additional opportunity to strengthen regional transport connectivity.

Publication also highlights prospects for advancing the Uzbekistan - Afghanistan - Pakistan railway project and integrating it with the Trans-Caspian route. This could expand transport links between South Asia, Central Asia and the South Caucasus.
