Japanese newspaper “Yomiuri Shimbun”: Japan seeks to deepen cooperation with Central Asia to diversify supply chains

TOKYO, December 24. /Dunyo IA/. A feature article in the respected Japanese daily “Yomiuri Shimbun” has highlighted Japan’s growing cooperation with Central Asian countries aimed at strengthening the resilience of global supply chains, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The article highlights that on 20 December in Tokyo, the first Central Asia + Japan Dialogue Summit was held, resulting in the adoption of a Joint Declaration. The document outlines three key areas of cooperation, including the development of transportation routes. According to the publication, Japan aims to deepen partnerships with regional states rich in critical minerals, seeking to diversify supply chains and enhance its economic security.
Following the summit, in a press briefing at the Prime Minister’s Office, Sanae Takaichi emphasized the strategic importance of Central Asia and its potential in supporting economic stability. The article notes that the region’s geopolitical position between Russia and China adds further significance to Japan’s cooperation with Central Asia.
The summit was attended by President of Uzbekistan alongside leaders of other Central Asian countries. Analyzing the adopted declaration, the publication highlights the focus on building a free and open international order based on the rule of law. Priorities also include the development of transport infrastructure, human capital and cooperation on climate change mitigation, which carry practical relevance for Uzbekistan.
The declaration includes measures to strengthen collaboration against economic coercion and to develop partnerships in safe and reliable artificial intelligence.
Additionally, on 20 December, the Prime Minister of Japan held a separate bilateral meeting with the President of Uzbekistan, during which agreements were reached to expand cooperation in food security, a matter of strategic importance for Uzbekistan’s national interests.
