From August 1st, a system for monitoring scrap metal turnover to be launched in Uzbekistan

MOSCOW, July 16. /Dunyo IA/.   President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev ordered the implementation of a system for monitoring scrap metal turnover from August 1st to combat the shadow market and increase the transparency of raw material supplies in the metallurgical industry, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing with reference to the Russian news agency “Interfax”.

Decision was made following a meeting on the development of ferrous metallurgy at JSC “Uzmetkombinat”. It was noted that while about 700,000 tons of scrap are supplied to the plant annually, another 500,000 tons of scrap metal remain outside official turnover.

For tracking operations with raw materials, the electronic platform “E-lom” will be launched, which will allow controlling the movement of scrap metal in real time. Also, a project office will be created under the government to develop competition, stabilize prices and improve control mechanisms.

Need of Uzbekistan for metal products over the past ten years has doubled and reached 5.5 million tons per year. By 2030, the figure may increase to 8 million tons.

President ordered to accelerate the development of domestic deposits, finalize the agreement on the supply of 700,000 tons of iron ore from Tajikistan, as well as develop the production of seamless pipes, 3D printing technologies and cooperation projects worth 100 million dollars.

During the visit to JSC “Uzmetkombinat” in Bekabad, the head of state also launched the operation of a new casting and rolling complex.
