CNN: Uzbekistan brings centuries of Central Asian intellectual heritage to the world stage

ATLANTA, March 17. /Dunyo IA/.  The influential American television channel “CNN” has published an article dedicated to the opening of the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

According to “CNN”, the Great Silk Road served as a centuries-old global exchange route for caravans, ideas, scientific knowledge, and art. This facilitated the development of international scientific, cultural and religious thought in Central Asian cities, particularly in modern-day Uzbekistan, making the region a central hub for inter-civilizational interaction.

The publication describes the magnificent appearance of the Center of Islamic Civilization, which in 2025 was honored with the internationally acclaimed “Prix Avicenne 2025”. It highlights that the Center was established to study, preserve, and promote the scientific, cultural, and spiritual heritage formed in Uzbekistan and Central Asia on a global scale.

The publication notes that the center will function as both a museum and a scientific research institution, highlighting Uzbekistan's significant role as a historical hub of Islamic enlightenment and culture. This center serves to demonstrate the country's profound contribution to the development of Islamic knowledge and traditions.

“CNN” notes that the center's design is firmly rooted in historical heritage, harmonizing the architectural traditions of the Registan Square madrasas with the spirit of the Timurid era. The building’s four massive portals symbolically represent the regions of Uzbekistan, while its facades are adorned with exquisite mosaic patterns and intricate calligraphic decorations.

“The interior of the centre has been designed on the basis of modern approaches, featuring immersive multimedia environments, artificial intelligence-based interactive installations and three-dimensional reconstructions that enable visitors to vividly experience historical periods.

In addition, the complex includes research centres, restoration and digitisation laboratories, archival storage facilities and a library, ensuring that the Centre operates effectively not only as a public museum but also as an active scientific institution. More than 1,500 specialists from over 40 countries have participated in the project.

Continuing the tradition of institutions such as the Ma’mun Academy in Khorezm or the Ulugh Beg Madrasa in Samarkand, which once made Central Asia one of the world’s leading centres of science and learning in their time, the Centre of Islamic Civilization is aimed at reviving this rich intellectual heritage for future generations”, - article states.

In an article published by “CNN”, the planned opening of the Centre of Islamic Civilization in Tashkent in March 2026 is described as a significant cultural milestone, emphasizing that it will help connect the younger generation with the roots of global scientific and intellectual heritage that emerged in Central Asia.
