12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians to be held in Samarkand on September 4-6

PHNOM PENH, September 2. /Dunyo IA/. The 12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, titled “Reclaiming human rights, justice and dignity for all in turbulent times,” will be held in the ancient city of Samarkand on September 4-6, jointly organized by the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

According to the upper house of parliament, the international conference is a practical implementation of important initiatives put forward by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to expand youth participation in public and state affairs, strengthen their role in parliamentary activities, and promote global dialogue and cooperation among younger generations.

Nearly 300 participants are expected to attend the conference, including representatives from 183 countries, 15 international organisations and around 50 permanent observers. They include young parliamentarians, parliamentary leaders and representatives, international organisations and civil society institutions.

During the conference, young parliamentarians will discuss pressing global challenges and exchange views and experience on protecting human rights and dignity, strengthening the principles of justice, promoting peace and stability, and enhancing the role of youth in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The conference will also host the 3rd Global Forum on inter-parliamentary cooperation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Amid rapid global changes and emerging challenges and threats, the participation of young people in decision-making, as well as support for their potential and initiatives, is becoming increasingly important. The conference will provide a platform for young parliamentarians to exchange experience and views, put forward concrete initiatives and establish practical cooperation.

The international forum in Samarkand is expected to highlight Uzbekistan’s efforts to promote inter-parliamentary dialogue, youth diplomacy and global cooperation.
