TASHKENT, July 8. /Dunyo IA/. Today, about 99% of the world’s population – approximately 8.2 billion people – will simultaneously experience daylight or twilight, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The peak of this rare phenomenon is expected at around 4:10 p.m. Tashkent time (11:10 GMT). For about one minute, sunlight will cover almost all of the planet’s most populated regions – North and South America, Europe, Africa, and most of Asia.
At that moment, only about 1% of the world’s population – around 83 million people – will remain in complete darkness. Nighttime will occur in Australia, New Zealand, parts of Southeast Asia, Antarctica, and surrounding ocean areas.
The phenomenon is linked to Earth’s tilt and the seasonal conditions of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. Although July 8 is often considered a special date, a similar alignment occurs for about 60 days each year – from mid-May to mid-July.
Scientists note that after the June solstice, the Sun gradually shifts southward, allowing more people in densely populated regions such as Indonesia and the Philippines to experience daylight or twilight.
