SEOUL, July 14. /Dunyo IA/. A district court in Seoul sentenced former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol to two years in prison on charges of violating the Political Funds Act, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing the “Yonhap” news agency.

The court found the former president guilty of receiving illegal political support. Special prosecutors had previously accused Yoon Suk Yeol of colluding with his wife, former First Lady Kim Keon Hee, and receiving 58 free public opinion polls worth a total of about 270 million won (approximately $180,000) between April 2021 and March 2022. Prosecutors had sought a four-year prison sentence for the former president in this case.

Earlier, a court sentenced former First Lady Kim Keon Hee to seven years in prison in a case involving the receipt of expensive gifts and services in exchange for assistance in resolving various issues.

A total of eight criminal cases have been opened against Yoon Suk Yeol in connection with his attempt to impose martial law in December 2024. In February 2026, he was sentenced to life imprisonment in a case related to organizing an insurrection through the declaration of martial law. He later appealed the verdict. In June, the former president received an additional 30-year prison sentence on charges of aiding the enemy and abuse of power.
