Diana Janse: Uzbekistan is undertaking an impressive reform process

ТАSHKENT, June 10. /Dunyo IA/.   Today, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan hosted talks with a Swedish delegation led by Diana Janse, State Secretary to the Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade. Following the meeting, two bilateral documents were signed to develop cooperation in migration and mobility.

The head of the Swedish delegation shared her comments with the Dunyo IA correspondent on the outcomes of the talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

-  So, I came here and discussed a wide range of issues related to our bilateral relations. I also brought a business delegation to Uzbekistan, so trade was a major part of our discussions. The agreement that was signed is a migration agreement. It provides a strong framework for cooperation on regulated and orderly migration flows between our countries.

It is now up to our respective agencies to continue working together and make the most of this agreement in practice. In our case, this involves the Ministry of Justice, and on your side, the migration authorities. Migration is a priority for both our governments, and I am pleased to say that our cooperation in this area has been very productive. We will continue working together to ensure that this agreement delivers meaningful results.

In the area of investment, there is significant activity across a number of sectors. Telecommunications, healthcare and mining are among the key areas of cooperation, but there are many others as well.

Sweden is a global leader in several fields, including sustainable mining. As Uzbekistan modernizes its mining sector and adopts safer practices and higher environmental standards, Sweden can contribute valuable expertise and advanced equipment. A number of Swedish companies supplying mining technologies and equipment are already active in Uzbekistan.

Healthcare is another promising area. Sweden has strong capabilities in life sciences and is home to some of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies. This creates important opportunities for cooperation and mutual learning.

Uzbekistan is undertaking an impressive reform process, and many positive developments are taking place. We want to be part of that journey and to work closely with Uzbekistan. At the same time, we would like to see increased exports from Uzbekistan to Sweden.

We have institutions such as the National Board of Trade that help facilitate trade and work with Uzbek counterparts to identify ways of expanding exports to Sweden. Our economic cooperation is a two-way partnership that benefits both countries.
