Uzbek Football Teams Triumph at Prestigious International Tournament in Sweden

• 1096GOTHENBURG, July 19. /Dunyo IA/. The “Gothia Cup 2026,” one of the world’s largest and most prestigious international youth and inclusive football tournaments, was held in the Swedish city of Gothenburg, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
Held annually since 1975, the Gothia Cup is widely regarded as one of the leading international platforms for the development of youth and inclusive football. This year, the tournament brought together 1,956 teams from 78 countries. Thousands of players competed across various age groups and categories, promoting the values of friendship, mutual respect, and inclusion through sport.
Uzbekistan was proudly represented by the men’s and women’s teams of Special Olympics Uzbekistan. Throughout the tournament, the Uzbek delegation demonstrated a high level of sporting excellence, teamwork, and determination.
At the conclusion of the competition, Uzbek men’s team claimed the championship title after defeating all of its opponents in its category to secure first place.
The women’s team also delivered an impressive performance, advancing to the final and earning the silver medal with a second-place finish.
During the tournament, representatives of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Sweden met with the young footballers who had travelled from Uzbekistan to participate in the competition. They congratulated the athletes and their coaches on their outstanding results, emphasizing that their success represents not only a significant achievement for Uzbek sport but also an important contribution to strengthening Uzbekistan's positive international image and promoting friendship and mutual understanding among nations through sport.
