ULAN-UDE, September 26. /Dunyo IA/.  Consul General of Uzbekistan in Novosibirsk Aslam Akbarov visited Correctional Colony No. 8 of the Main Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Republic of Buryatia in the city of Ulan-Ude, where he held a meeting with compatriots detained there, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

During individual conversations with citizens of Uzbekistan, their appeals and requests were heard, data concerning the nature of their offenses were recorded in detail, and comprehensive consultations were provided. To date, 66 citizens of Uzbekistan are serving sentences in this institution.

Consul General took prompt measures to resolve the issues raised. In particular, assistance in providing urgent medical care to two compatriots suffering from heart and spinal conditions was resolved on the spot. The issue of organizing meals for Uzbek citizens in accordance with Islamic dietary guidelines was also reviewed with the leadership of the correctional facility.

Furthermore, the issue of issuing a certificate of return to the homeland for a citizen of Uzbekistan, who is due to be released from the colony in a month, was promptly resolved.

It was emphasized to the compatriots that the diplomatic mission of Uzbekistan stands guard over their legitimate rights and interests, regardless of the nature of the offenses committed and remains ready to provide the necessary consular, legal and juridical assistance in the future. The next visit to places of detention of fellow citizens is scheduled for late October in Irkutsk.
