TBILISI, October 31. /Dunyo IA/. Citizens of Uzbekistan planning to travel to Georgia are advised to obtain medical insurance in advance and prepare documents confirming the purpose and conditions of their stay in the country, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
Starting January 1, 2026, all foreign nationals entering Georgia for tourism purposes are required to have medical and accident insurance.
The insurance policy must be issued in Georgian or English and may be presented in either paper or electronic format. It can be obtained from either a Georgian or a foreign insurance company. The minimum coverage amount must be 30,000 Georgian lari (approximately USD 11,200).
The policy must include information about the policyholder and insured person, the geographical area of coverage, the insurance period, covered risks, the coverage amount, the cost of the policy and payment terms. Insurance must cover the entire period of stay in Georgia, including the dates of arrival and departure.
Exemptions from the mandatory insurance requirement apply to holders of diplomatic and special visas and passports, accredited employees of diplomatic and consular missions and international organizations and their family members, individuals entering under international agreements, as well as drivers engaged in international freight and passenger transportation.
According to Uzbekistan Airways, during the first nine months of 2026, Georgian airports denied entry to 711 passengers, 473 of whom were citizens of Uzbekistan.
The main reasons for entry refusals included an inability to clearly explain the purpose of the visit, the absence of hotel booking confirmations and return flight tickets, medical insurance, as well as documents proving sufficient financial means to cover expenses during the stay.
In this regard, Uzbek citizens are advised to determine the purpose of their trip in advance and prepare all necessary documents, including proof of accommodation, return flight tickets, an insurance policy and evidence of sufficient financial resources.
Particular attention should be paid to border control procedures: travellers should answer immigration officers' questions clearly, consistently and truthfully.
