SEOUL, August 1. /Dunyo IA/. South Korea's “Global Korea Post” has published an article titled “Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan: A New Stage and Future Prospects for Environmental Cooperation”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The publication notes that environmental cooperation between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, based on the 1996 intergovernmental agreement, has intensified significantly during 2022–2025. The two countries have jointly participated in initiatives aimed at snow leopard conservation, combating illegal wildlife trade, and advancing the climate agenda. In 2024, they signed a memorandum on grant-funded study opportunities at Green University and organized an event marking the International Day of Mountains.

The article also highlights memorandums on preserving the UNESCO-listed Western Tien Shan World Heritage Site and protecting the snow leopard, as well as cooperation within the framework of the CIS, the SCO, the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, and international environmental organizations. Future priorities include Kyrgyzstan's participation in the Working Group on Environmental Protection and Water Quality of the Syr Darya River Basin and the promotion of a regional Environmental Performance Review with the support of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).

According to the publication, the environmental partnership between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan is evolving into a strategic relationship that contributes to the sustainable development of Central Asia.
