“Petra” IA: “Eternal City” of Samarkand brings together Traditional Architecture and Folk Crafts

AMMAN, October 26. /Dunyo IA/.   Jordan’s National Information Agency “Petra” has published an article entitled “Samarkand’s “Eternal City” Brings Together Traditional Architecture and Folk Crafts”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Article notes that the “Eternal City” recreates the atmosphere of the historic cities of the Great Silk Road, bringing together architecture, traditional crafts, national cuisine and artistic performances. Located within the “Silk Road Samarkand” tourist complex, it covers 17 hectares, according to the complex’s website. Its distinctive features include turquoise domes, mosaics on façades, arches and minarets.

According to the agency, the site is home to more than 50 workshops showcasing wood carving, ceramic decoration, pottery, papermaking, jewellery making, carpet weaving, embroidery and the production of national clothing. Restaurants and cafés offer traditional dishes from different regions, particularly plov, as well as samsa, Samarkand bread and sweets.

As “Petra” emphasizes, the project, conceived by renowned artist Bobur Ismailov, complements the authentic UNESCO World Heritage monuments of ancient Samarkand, including Registan Square, the Shah-i-Zinda ensemble and the Gur-e-Amir complex. The “Eternal City” serves as a contemporary cultural venue, bringing together history, crafts, art and the centuries-old traditions of Uzbek hospitality in one space.
