“Kabar” News Agency: Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan relations are transitioning to a more mature economic model

BISHKEK, July 22. /Dunyo IA/.  “Kabar” Kyrgyz National News Agency has published an article titled “Uzbekistan - Kyrgyzstan: From Border Neighborliness to Long-Term Economic Cooperation”, dedicated to the dynamics of bilateral relations and the expansion of interaction between the two brotherly nations, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Publication notes that in recent years, Uzbek-Kyrgyz relations have reached a qualitatively new level, evolving from traditional good-neighborliness into a multifaceted strategic partnership. The shared border, historical and cultural proximity, regular political dialogue, and growing interdependence in the trade and economic sphere create a solid foundation for the further strengthening of cooperation.

Special attention is paid to the role of intergovernmental interaction mechanisms. The significance of the Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation is emphasized, as well as the Council of Heads of Regions of the two countries, which facilitates the development of direct ties between border territories, the expansion of trade and the implementation of joint projects on the ground.

As noted in the publication, the development of business contacts remains an important area. In particular, the business forum held in Tashkent in 2024, with the participation of business representatives from both countries, concluded with the signing of a series of agreements totalling 213 million dollars. The preparation of new business events demonstrates the interest of entrepreneurs in expanding industrial cooperation and implementing joint investment projects.

Article provides data on the growth of mutual trade. By the end of 2025, the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan reached nearly 1.2 billion dollars, increasing by more than a third. The positive dynamics continue in 2026, indicating an expansion of the product range and the strengthening of economic ties.

Development of industrial cooperation is emphasized separately. Among the promising areas are automotive engineering, the textile industry, pharmaceuticals, geology, production of building materials and the joint development of natural resources. A special place is occupied by cooperation in the energy sector, including the implementation of major regional projects.

A significant contribution to supporting joint initiatives is made by the Uzbek-Kyrgyz Development Fund, which finances projects in the fields of industry, transport, energy, finance and other key sectors.

In conclusion, the article emphasizes that modern Uzbek-Kyrgyz cooperation is taking shape as a comprehensive system of long-term partnership based on mutual trust, economic complementarity and a shared commitment to common development.
