BANGKOK, October 23. /Dunyo IA/.   Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Feruza Eshmatova held a meeting with Chief Ombudsman of Thailand Songsak Saicheua in Bangkok, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Following the meeting, parties signed a memorandum on strengthening cooperation in the field of protecting human rights and freedoms, the legitimate interests of citizens and improving public administration.

Document provides for the exchange of experience in reviewing citizens' appeals, information on the outcomes of processing appeals from citizens of Uzbekistan in Thailand and citizens of Thailand in Uzbekistan, as well as analytical materials on improving legislation in the sphere of human rights and fulfilling international obligations.

Parties also discussed the improvement of legislation and practical mechanisms for the prevention of torture with due regard for gender aspects, cooperation with the UN, organization of training events, and raising public awareness of human rights.

Within the framework of the memorandum, it is planned to conduct joint seminars and research, organize mutual visits and internships, implement projects, and develop interaction within international and regional ombudsman platforms. High-level meetings to exchange experience and discuss future plans will be held at least once every two years.

Following the talks, Ombudsman Feruza Eshmatova and Consul General of Uzbekistan Fakhriddin Sultanov met with compatriots residing in Thailand. During the meeting, the citizens were informed about the reforms in New Uzbekistan, as well as measures taken to ensure the rule of law and build a democratic state governed by the rule of law.
