GENEVA, June 10. /Dunyo IA/. Within the framework of the 114th Session of the International Labour Conference taking place in Geneva, a high-level international event was held on the theme “Red Card Against Child Labour: From Marrakesh to Practical Action”, dedicated to June 12th – World Day Against Child Labour, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

According to the information of the Senate Press Service, participants discussed issues regarding the eradication of child labour, ensuring the protection of children's rights, the widespread implementation of decent work principles and the strengthening of international cooperation in this direction.

During the event, amid the 187 member states of the International Labour Conference, the delegation of Uzbekistan presented the outcomes of the reforms implemented in the fields of labour, social protection, and education. The near-complete eradication of child labour in the country was recognized by the international community as a direct result of effective state policy, a robust social protection system and strong international cooperation.

In her address, Tanzila Narbaeva, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and Chairperson of the National Commission on Countering Trafficking in Persons and Decent Work, emphasized that the eradication of child labor can be achieved not merely through legal prohibitions, but by addressing its root causes, such as poverty and the need for social protection, alongside expanding access to quality education and decent work.

It was noted that owing to the firm political will of the country's leadership, consistent reforms, and effective international cooperation, child labour has been virtually eradicated in Uzbekistan, and sustainable mechanisms have been established to prevent its recurrence.

It was also emphasized that close cooperation with the International Labour Organization, employers' associations, and trade unions, along with the consistent implementation of ILO recommendations, played a crucial role in achieving these results.

The event participants drew attention to the fact that today, factors such as conflicts, migration processes, climate change and informal employment increase the risk of child labour.

In this regard, they stressed the importance of implementing the Durban Global Framework for Action and noted the need to step up practical measures to eradicate child labour.
