Uzbekistan and Poland agree to expand cooperation in historical memory

• 224WARSAW, April 15. /Dunyo IA/. Uzbek diplomats in Poland met with the leadership of the Institute of National Remembrance of Poland (IPN) to discuss the development of cooperation in the fields of historical memory, archival affairs and museum activities, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The meeting, organized by the Embassy, was attended by IPN Vice-President Professor Karol Polejowski, Archive Director Marzena Kruk, Head of the Historical Research Bureau Dr. Sebastian Pilarski, Head of the International Cooperation Department Katarzyna Dryńska and the Head of the President's Office of the Institute Dr. Marek Jedniak.
During the talks, the Polish side presented the activities of the IPN, including the investigation of crimes from the Nazi and Communist periods, archive management, as well as research and educational work.
The parties noted that institutional cooperation between the relevant agencies of the two countries has been taking shape in recent years. In particular, collaboration was established in 2021 between the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk, Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, and the “Uzarchive” Agency, while a memorandum was signed in 2022 between the IPN and the National Archives of Uzbekistan.
Special attention was paid to historical ties. In particular, the formation of General Władysław Anders' army on the territory of Uzbekistan in 1942, the establishment of its headquarters in the city of Yangiyul, and the evacuation of more than 115,000 Polish citizens through Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan to Iran were noted. The parties also discussed the preservation and study of burial sites and memorial objects related to the history of the two nations.
Polish side expressed interest in expanding cooperation with relevant Uzbek institutions, including the State Museum of the Memory of Victims of Repressions, the Museum of Jadid Heritage, and the Art and Culture Development Foundation of Uzbekistan. In this regard, it was proposed to organize online meetings and consider the implementation of joint research, archival and museum projects.
Following the meeting, Professor Karol Polejowski confirmed his readiness to visit Uzbekistan and expressed interest in developing practical cooperation. The parties agreed to foster direct contacts, implement joint projects, and further strengthen institutional collaboration.
