Fire at Orphanage in Algeria Kills 11, Injures 19 Amid Extreme Heat

ALGIERS, July 16. /Dunyo IA/. Eleven people, including children, were killed and 19 others injured in a fire at a children’s home near the Algerian capital, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing the news outlet “Al Arabiya.”
The fire broke out early morning of today in the Mohammadia district of Algiers Province. Local residents and emergency services rushed to the scene. After the blaze, charred sections of the building’s walls were visible around the window openings.
According to Algeria’s Civil Protection Service, 10 of the injured victims suffered burns of varying severity. Rescue teams also evacuated five people with disabilities from the building.
President of Algeria Abdelmadjid Tebboune expressed condolences to the families of those who died, saying he had received news of the deaths of children and injuries sustained by other residents of the childcare facility following the fire.
The cause of the blaze, as well as the identities and ages of those killed, has not yet been disclosed. The incident comes amid an ongoing heatwave in Algeria, with 913 fires reportedly quenched across the country since July 8.
