WASHINGTON–HAVANA, July 16. /Dunyo IA/. The Pentagon is considering several scenarios for possible military action against Cuba, including a ground troop deployment, although no final decision has been made, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing CBS News.

According to sources at the White House, discussions on various options have been ongoing for several weeks. However, the sources said a military operation in the near future is unlikely, as a significant portion of Pentagon resources is currently focused on the conflict with Iran.

U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth previously did not rule out the possibility of military action against Cuba. He said that any potential acquisition by Havana of weapons capable of threatening U.S. territory could become a reason for confrontation.

According to U.S. intelligence assessments, Cuba has purchased more than 300 drones that, officials claim, could potentially be used to target the U.S. base at Guantanamo Bay, Navy vessels, and military facilities in Florida.

At the same time, Washington continues to increase political and economic pressure on the Cuban government. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States still expects political changes on the island but accused Cuba’s leadership of rejecting reforms and maintaining “total control” over the state.

The situation inside Cuba remains tense. In recent days, several regions of the country have again experienced widespread power outages due to the poor condition of the national energy system and fuel shortages. Residents continue to face regular blackouts lasting several hours.

President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel previously stated that the country is prepared to defend itself against possible aggression. “If that happens, there’ll be fighting and there’ll be a struggle and we’ll defend ourselves and if we need to die, we’ll die,” he said.

Amid these developments, The Wall Street Journal reported that the U.S. administration is considering a regime change in Cuba as one of its foreign policy objectives by the end of 2026. A similar scenario was previously carried out in Venezuela, where former President Nicolás Maduro was captured by U.S. forces.
