BISHKEK, August 6. /Dunyo IA/. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov signed the Constitutional Law Opinion On Draft Constitutional Law On Amendments to the Constitutional Law “On Elections of The President of The Kyrgyz Republic And Members Of Jogorku Kenesh of The Kyrgyz Republic”, aimed at improving the country’s national electoral legislation, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

According to the Kyrgyz National Information Agency “Kabar” document was adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh on June 24^th, 2026 and entered into force on the day of its official publication - July 29^th.

Under the new provisions, regular presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan will be held on the fourth Wednesday of January of the year in which the term of office of the head of state expires. Accordingly, the next presidential election has been scheduled for January 27^th, 2027. Elections of deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh will also be held on the Wednesday of the month in which the constitutional term of office of the current parliamentary convocation expires.

The Law also stipulates that voting days for presidential and parliamentary elections will be considered non-working days, with salaries preserved for employees regardless of the form of ownership of their employers.

In addition, the document introduces a number of important changes to the electoral system. In particular, the institution of the “electoral address” is abolished, while polling stations will generally be established with no more than 4,000 voters per polling station.

Requirements for candidates and political parties regarding the financing of election campaigns have also been tightened. Before submitting documents, they are required to establish their own election funds, from which the mandatory electoral deposit will be paid. In the absence of a supporting bank document, the documents submitted by a candidate or a party will not be considered.

At the same time, new opportunities are being introduced for participants in the electoral process. Thus, the collection of signatures in support of candidates is now permitted not only on paper signature sheets but also in digital format using a cloud-based digital signature. Candidates and political parties are also allowed to engage up to three campaign workers at each polling station.

Adopted amendments modernize Kyrgyzstan’s electoral system by expanding the use of digital technologies, increasing the transparency of election campaign financing and clarifying the procedures for conducting elections.
