TASHKENT, June 26. /Dunyo IA/. An international conference titled “Drug Threats in the World: Current Problems, New Challenges and Innovative Approaches to Overcoming Them” is being held in the capital of Uzbekistan, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The event is organized in connection with June 26 – the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The forum is attended by members of state and regional commissions on control of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, heads of authorized state bodies and public organizations, representatives of local authorities, specialists and experts, representatives of international organizations and partner structures, the diplomatic corps and consular offices accredited in the country, as well as media representatives.

The conference was opened by representatives of the Drug and Firearms Control Agency under the Administration of the President of Uzbekistan, the operational unit of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the EU’s Central Asia Drug Action Program (CADAP 8).

In their speeches, they emphasized that the event is not only a practical expression of measures to combat drug addiction and drug-related crime, but also an important symbol of trust and cooperation between international and local organizations.

At the conference, Salomé Flores, Head of the UNODC Regional Office for Central Asia, presented a report on the global drug situation in 2025.

As part of the event, a group of government employees and public representatives who made a significant contribution to combating drug addiction and drug-related crime were awarded the badge “Narkotiklarga qarshi kurashish fidoyisi” (“Dedicated to the Fight Against Drugs”), while activists involved in preventive work throughout the year received awards and commemorative gifts.

In addition, during the event, an online ceremony was shown of the destruction of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, strong medications, and precursors seized by law enforcement agencies over the past year in Uzbekistan.

According to the State Security Service, a total of 2,963.61 kg of narcotic substances were destroyed this year, including 1,348.79 kg of marijuana, 649.64 kg of hashish, 101.43 kg of poppy, 426.35 kg of opium, 78.37 kg of heroin, 225.88 kg of synthetic drugs, 83.98 g of cocaine, 197.51 g of hash oil, 0.04 g of psychotropic substances, 71.08 kg of strong substances, and 54 kg of precursors, including 152.5 g of potassium permanganate and 53.88 kg of hydrochloric acid, all destroyed by burning.

This conference has become another important symbolic step demonstrating the firm will and determined position of the people of Uzbekistan in the fight against drugs.
