Traditional Uzbek Ceramics and the Rishtan School Presented in Warsaw

• 56WARSAW, June 21. /Dunyo IA/. A cultural and educational event titled “Traditional Ceramics of Uzbekistan. Visiting the Masters of Rishtan” was held at the House of Creativity Work, organized by the Embassy of Uzbekistan together with the Asia and Pacific Museum in Warsaw, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
During the event, diplomats spoke about ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan aimed at developing craftsmanship, ceramic art, the history of the Rishtan school in this field, its artistic features, and its modern development.
Karolina Krzywicka, curator of the Central Asia collection at the Asia and Pacific Museum, who conducts research on the material culture of Uzbekistan and traditional crafts, ceramic and applied arts, shared details of her research trips to Uzbekistan, meetings with Rishtan potters, the process of traditional ceramic production, the symbolic meaning of ornaments, and Uzbek folk applied art.
A presentation was also given on the history of Rishtan ceramics, the experience of local artisans, traditions of national craftsmanship, and opportunities for its promotion at the international level.
During the event, a preliminary agreement was reached on promoting Uzbek traditional crafts in Poland, as well as on organizing future exhibitions, lectures, workshops, and cultural exchange activities.
Ceramic artist Marta Kowalska said in an interview with Dunyo IA that she had long dreamed of visiting Uzbekistan and expressed admiration for its traditional handcrafted ceramic production and its cultural heritage.
Central Asia researcher and social anthropologist Anna Ciesielska shared her impressions of the presentation, highlighting the cultural significance of Uzbek ceramics and expressing hope for more exhibitions and workshops in Warsaw. She also noted that she will return to Uzbekistan under a research scholarship to continue her academic work at the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies.
Student and emerging ceramic artist Katarzyna Nowak expressed enthusiasm about learning about Uzbek ceramic traditions, noting the richness of colors, ornamentation, and techniques, and said the presentation strengthened her desire to visit Uzbekistan.
