KUALA LUMPUR, December 15. /Dunyo IA/.  Leading Malaysian media outlets, “Asia News Today” and “Astro Awani”, have published articles highlighting the dynamic growth of tourism cooperation between Malaysia and Uzbekistan, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

According to the articles, tourism is now one of the key and most promising areas of bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and Uzbekistan.

A major milestone in strengthening this partnership was the introduction of a 30-day visa-free regime for citizens of both countries. This measure has significantly expanded travel opportunities, making tourism more accessible for both Uzbeks and Malaysians.

The convenient geographical location of the two countries further boosts mutual interest in tourism: Uzbekistan serves as the heart of Central Asia, while Malaysia is a key hub in Southeast Asia. Friendly relations based on mutual respect and trust, along with a rich historical and cultural heritage, are contributing positively to the development of tourism between the two nations.

Special attention is being given to Islamic tourism. Uzbekistan is actively developing Muslim-friendly infrastructure, including prayer facilities and halal-friendly hotels. Cities such as Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva, which are historic centers of Islamic civilization, are particularly favored by tourists from Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam.

In 2025, both countries intensified delegation exchanges. A major Malaysian tourism delegation visited Uzbekistan, including leaders from “MATTA”, “BUMITRA”, “PAPUH” and representatives of more than 25 leading travel companies. In turn, an Uzbek delegation participated in the “MATTA Fair” in Kuala Lumpur, attracting attention with a cultural program featuring performing groups from Andijan.

“The development of air connectivity has become a key factor in increasing tourist flows. “Uzbekistan Airways”, “Batik Air” and “AirAsia” operate direct flights between Tashkent and Kuala Lumpur seven times a week, and as of December 14, 2025, a direct route to Langkawi Island was launched. The “Umrah Plus” program, which allows pilgrims to visit sacred sites in Uzbekistan before traveling to Saudi Arabia, is also gaining popularity. Tourist arrivals from Malaysia are steadily increasing - from 4,500 visitors in 2023 to 9,500 in 2024”, - Malaysian media report.
