PARIS, July 20. /Dunyo IA/. The Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan to UNESCO held a meeting with UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture Nayef Al-Fayez, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

During the talks, the sides discussed the implementation of joint initiatives between Uzbekistan and UNESCO in the field of culture, as well as further steps in this direction. Particular attention was paid to Uzbekistan’s nomination dossier titled “Modernist Architecture of Tashkent. Modernity and Traditions in Central Asia.”

Nayef Al-Fayez noted Uzbekistan’s efforts to preserve cultural heritage, including Tashkent’s modernist architectural sites. According to him, the recognition of the capital’s architectural masterpieces by the international community will contribute to enhancing the city’s image and attracting more tourists.

Meeting also addressed the implementation of initiatives by the President of Uzbekistan presented at the opening of the 43^rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand, including the preparation of a draft decision of the UNESCO Executive Board “On Strengthening Measures to Preserve Cultural Heritage in the Context of Globalization and Climate Change” and the organization of an international symposium on this topic.

UNESCO representative emphasized the relevance of these initiatives and expressed confidence that the outcomes of the symposium in Khiva would help develop practical mechanisms and recommendations for UNESCO member states.

In addition, Nayef Al-Fayez positively assessed Uzbekistan’s application to host the annual conference of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in Bukhara in 2027 and expressed hope for its support from the network’s participating cities.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the UNESCO Assistant Director-General confirmed the organization’s readiness to continue cooperation with Uzbekistan within the framework of the cooperation agreement signed in April 2026.
