WASHINGTON, August 30. /Dunyo IA/. Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser officially proclaimed September 1^st, 2026, as “Independence Day of the Republic of Uzbekistan” in honour of the 35^th Anniversary of the country’s Independence, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Decision represents not only recognition of the historical significance of Uzbekistan’s independence, but also a testament to the strengthening Uzbek-American relations and recognition of the important role of the Uzbek community in the life of the U.S. capital.

In her proclamation, Mayor of Washington DC underscored the significance of Uzbekistan’s Independence Day and noted that the United States of America was among the first countries to recognize Independence of Uzbekistan.

Document states, in particular: “Uzbekistan Independence Day commemorates the 35^th Anniversary of the Republic of Uzbekistan’s declaration of Independence, first observed on September 1^st, 1991; and whereas, this occasion honours the people of Uzbekistan and celebrates the nation’s rich cultural heritage, remarkable achievements, and growing prominence in the International community; and whereas, we join the Uzbekistan community worldwide in celebrating Uzbekistan Independence Day and honouring the enduring friendship, partnership, and shared aspirations that unite our people”, document emphasizes. “Now, therefore, I, The Mayor of Washington, DC, do hereby proclaim September 1^st, 2026, as “Uzbekistan Independence Day”, in Washington, DC”.
