TASHKENT, August 14. /Dunyo IA/. Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Nuriddinjon Ismoilov, addressed today the international conference “Independent Uzbekistan – 35 Years of Development Path: Reforms, Results and Prospects in Tashkent, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

He noted that over the past decade, Uzbekistan has become a country of large-scale democratic and socio-economic transformations, emphasizing the significance of the Action Strategy, the Development Strategy and the “Uzbekistan – 2030” Strategy in shaping the nation's new development model.

According to him, the new edition of the Constitution adopted on the basis of a nationwide referendum has shaped a new socio-political environment and reinforced additional guarantees for the protection of human rights and freedoms.

Highlighting the economic outcomes of the reforms, Nuriddinjon Ismoilov informed that the volume of the country's economy has grown from $50 billion to $147 billion, the foreign exchange market has been liberalized and opportunities for entrepreneurship and attracting foreign investments have been expanded.

Last year, $43 billion of investments were attracted to the economy. Over the past decade, the volume of housing construction has increased 10-fold and reached 238 thousand apartments in 2025.

Particular attention in the address was paid to social reforms. According to the Speaker, the number of social services has increased from 23 to 140 over the past three years, while the poverty rate has declined from nearly 35 percent to 5.8 percent. The preschool education coverage has expanded from 27 percent to 78 percent and higher education coverage has risen from 9 percent to 44 percent.

Nuriddinjon Ismoilov also noted the consistent development of Uzbekistan's open and pragmatic foreign policy, primarily the strengthening of relations with Central Asian states and the advancement of regional cooperation.

Speaking on the role of the parliament, he emphasized that modern parliaments serve not only as lawmaking institutions but also as essential mechanisms for supporting socio-economic reforms, sustainable development and finding solutions to global challenges.

In this context, the adoption of two UN General Assembly resolutions initiated by the President of Uzbekistan, aimed at enhancing the role of parliaments in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and accelerating social development, was noted.

Speaker emphasized that parliamentary diplomacy has become one of the priority areas of Uzbekistan's foreign policy. Interparliamentary ties are expanding with the states of Central Asia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Russia, Türkiye and other countries.

Active engagement of Uzbekistan's representatives in the Inter-Parliamentary Union, OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, Asian Parliamentary Assembly and other international parliamentary structures was noted separately.

Nuriddinjon Ismoilov also emphasized the historic significance of hosting the 150^th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Tashkent, calling it a testament to the recognition of Uzbekistan as one of the centers of global interparliamentary dialogue.

In conclusion, he expressed confidence that the exchange of views and proposals of the conference participants would contribute to the further development of parliamentarism and the strengthening of international parliamentary cooperation.
