Updated Monograph on Amir Temur’s Role in Eurasian History Presented in Seoul

SEOUL, May 4. /Dunyo IA/. An expanded edition of Professor Son Donghee’s monograph “Amir Temur: Opening Closed Central Asia and Connecting the World” was presented at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in South Korea, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The author, a well-known South Korean scholar specializing in Central Asian history, has visited Uzbekistan multiple times for academic and educational purposes. The event served as a platform for scholarly discussion on Amir Temur’s political and diplomatic legacy.

The updated edition, published in 2026 to mark the 690th anniversary of Amir Temur’s birth, is seen as an important step in strengthening cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Uzbekistan and South Korea.

In his work, Professor Son Donghee reinterprets Amir Temur’s historical role, challenging established Western historiographical stereotypes. He presents him as an architect of 14th-century Eurasian geopolitics whose strategic vision helped overcome the isolation of Central Asia.

The monograph examines how Amir Temur’s system of secure trade routes revitalized the Silk Road, turning Samarkand into a major hub of global intellectual and economic exchange. It also highlights his administrative model, which combined nomadic mobility with the institutional stability of settled civilization.

Special attention is given to Amir Temur’s diplomatic initiatives, including contacts with European royal courts. The study concludes that the principles of international cooperation established during the Temurid era remain relevant to modern global relations.

The work is intended for both academics and general readers interested in the historical heritage of Central Asia in world history.
