International recognition: Uzbekistan’s Center for Islamic Civilization receives Prix Avicenne 2025

• 159TASHKENT, December 2. /Dunyo IA/. A “roundtable” discussion was held at the “PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry” (PHDCCI) in New Delhi, organized by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in India, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The Center for Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan has been awarded the prestigious Prix Avicenne 2025, one of Europe’s most respected honors. The formal ceremony took place in Paris at the National Academy of Medicine of France, bringing together leading scholars, medical historians, Orientalists, specialists in Islamic heritage, and representatives of European cultural institutions. During the official proceedings, it was announced that the Center would be presented with a monumental Avicenna statuette and the accompanying award diploma, in recognition of its outstanding contributions to the study and promotion of Islamic civilization.
The French scientific community has specifically highlighted that the activities of the Center for Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan, established under the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, represent a model of a contemporary approach to studying the legacy of Ibn Sina (Avicenna), one of history’s greatest scholars. According to the decision of the Academy, Uzbekistan today not only preserves its rich cultural and scientific heritage but also makes a significant contribution to global humanities. The country is advancing ambitious new projects, research standards, restoration and cataloguing efforts, and the promotion of Islamic intellectual heritage, reinforcing its role as a key center for scholarly and cultural development on the international stage.
Experts from the Academy have highly praised the scope of work being carried out at the Center for Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan. The Center has restored some of Avicenna’s rarest manuscripts, created extensive specialized archives and digital catalogues, and is conducting international scholarly projects comparing copies of the “Canon of Medicine”(Tib ilmi qonuni). It is also developing methods for the restoration of medical manuscripts and organizing international conferences dedicated to the contributions of Central Asia’s great scholars to global knowledge. According to French experts, the exhibitions established at the Center have elevated the study and research of Avicenna’s legacy to a new level, positioning Uzbekistan as a leading hub in this field and enhancing its role in the international scholarly community.
As the Prix Avicenne 2025 was formally received, Firdavs Abdukhalikov, Director of the Center for Islamic Civilization and President of the World Society for the Preservation, Study, and Promotion of Uzbekistan’s Cultural Heritage, made the following remarks:
- This award serves as a prominent international recognition of the extensive and visionary work of our respected President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. As the initiator of the Center for Islamic Civilization, President has spearheaded a unique scholarly and cultural mega-project aimed at promoting the authentic intellectual heritage of the great thinkers of the East to a global audience. The Prix Avicenne also represents a high honor and recognition of the contributions of hundreds of national and international scholars, researchers, translators, and experts who shape the scientific and educational work of the Center. Moreover, the award symbolically reflects the global community’s deep respect for Central Asia’s historical role in the development of scientific thought. We will continue to expand international research, strengthen scholarly collaborations, and advance initiatives dedicated to the legacy of Avicenna as well as all of our nation’s great thinkers.
The Prix Avicenne, established by France’s leading scientific institutions, is awarded in recognition of significant achievements in the humanities and natural sciences, as well as for contributions to the preservation and promotion of historical and scientific heritage.
