ISTANBUL, October 25. /Dunyo IA/. Consul General of Uzbekistan Sherzod Abdunazarov, met with the Mayor of the Bakırköy District in Istanbul Ayşegül Ovalıoğlu, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Parties reviewed the prospects for implementing joint projects in the cultural, social, and educational spheres aimed at strengthening friendly relations between Uzbekistan and Türkiye.

Central theme of the negotiations was the project of an Uzbek school planned to be built in Bakırköy. The sides emphasized its significance for the children of compatriots living in Türkiye, particularly for raising the younger generation in the spirit of national values and respect for the native language.

Project will be funded by the Government of Uzbekistan, and the construction work will be carried out by Turkish companies. The educational process will be organized according to the education system of Uzbekistan with the involvement of Uzbek teachers.

In January 2026, Presidents of the two countries launched the construction of the Uzbek school in the Bakırköy district of Istanbul - the first educational institution of Uzbekistan abroad. Since then, work has been underway on the processing of the necessary documentation and the design of the facility.

Following the meeting, parties agreed to make every effort to commence construction within the shortest possible timeframe. The administration of Bakırköy confirmed its readiness to fully support the initiative and provide the necessary assistance during the construction and organizational phases.

On the same day, Consul General held negotiations with representatives of the Ministry of National Education of Türkiye and the leadership of the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education. A working meeting was also held with the staff of the “Özgüven” company, which developed the school project.

Currently, the General Consulate of Uzbekistan is coordinating the operational cooperation between Bakırköy administration, design company, general construction contractor and the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education for the further advancement of the project.
