NEW YORK, September 27. /Dunyo IA/. More than 117 million people worldwide have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict, violence, persecution and security threats, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing the “UN News.”

UN High Commissioner for Refugees Barham Salih gave the figure during a UN Security Council meeting in New York.

He said the number of conflicts around the world continues to increase, with many becoming protracted, while political solutions to resolve them are often lacking.

Barham Salih noted that for millions of people, forced displacement that was initially seen as temporary has continued for years and, in some cases, across several generations.

The UN High Commissioner stressed that forced displacement goes beyond a humanitarian issue and represents a challenge to international peace and security.
