KYIV, July 16. /Dunyo IA/. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has submitted a proposal to the Verkhovna Rada (parliament) to appoint Sergii Koretsky as the country’s new prime minister, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The announcement was made by Ukrainian parliamentary speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk on his Facebook account. He added that parliament will consider the president’s proposal soon in accordance with the established procedure.

A day earlier, the Verkhovna Rada approved the resignation of Yulia Svyrydenko from the position of prime minister. She had led the government since July 17, 2025. The decision also resulted in the resignation of the entire Cabinet of Ministers.

Earlier, lawmaker Yaroslav Zheleznyak said that four potential candidates had initially been considered for the post: Naftogaz CEO Sergii Koretsky, Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, and Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov.

President Volodymyr Zelensky later stated that, after consultations, he considered Sergii Koretsky the most suitable candidate for the position of prime minister.

Parliament plans to approve the new head of government and vote on the new Cabinet of Ministers later today. The composition of the new government is reportedly already largely known. According to Ukrainian media reports, the most significant change will be the replacement of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko may take over as head of the Ministry of Defense. Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha is expected to remain in his position.
