Navruz celebrations in Geneva highlight cultural unity and traditions

GENEVA, April 9. /Dunyo IA/. A festive event dedicated to Navruz was held at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, reports the correspondent of Dunyo IA.

The event was organized by the Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan, along with the diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, India, Iraq, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkiye, and Hungary.
Over 800 guests attended the celebration, including representatives from the diplomatic corps, international organizations in Geneva, media, public and cultural organizations, as well as expatriates living in Switzerland.
For the first time, a joint stand featuring national cuisine and crafts from the organizing countries was presented.
Participants were introduced to the significance of Navruz for the peoples of the region, a holiday symbolizing renewal and new hopes. It was emphasized that Navruz is much more than the arrival of spring—it is a symbol of renewal, unity, and harmony, deeply rooted in traditions that span thousands of years and countless cultures. The holiday, recognized by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, serves as a testament to the enduring values of peace, friendship, and mutual respect that unite people across borders and generations.
Guests enjoyed the rich traditions of the organizing countries, the music of regional folk instruments—including performances by Uzbek masters—and the opportunity to sample dishes from the national cuisines.
Uzbekistan's stand showcased the country's tourism potential, historical and cultural heritage, and recent achievements. Attendees also had the chance to taste traditional Uzbek pilaf, samsa, dried fruits, and other national dishes.
Many visitors shared their impressions of the event, expressing interest in the rich culture, traditions, and tourist attractions of Uzbekistan.
Representatives from diplomatic missions and international organizations in Geneva remarked on the festive atmosphere, the vibrancy, and the wide representation of the rich cultural traditions of the participating countries during the Navruz celebration. They noted that it is truly a holiday that unites people, creating an atmosphere of joy, unity, and hope.
