Israeli weekly publication “Menorah”, dedicated to the life of Bukharian Jews, has published an article by Tanya Munz, a representative of the Bukharian-Jewish community of Australia, about her trip to Uzbekistan and the search for her family roots, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
Publication was released as part of a special column titled “Uzbekistan – Israel: We love two countries”, dedicated to the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence.”
Tanya Munz was born in Uzbekistan, but at an early age, she moved to Australia with her family. Years later, she returned to the homeland of her ancestors for the first time to learn more about her family history and visit places associated with the lives of her parents and grandparents.
During the trip, she visited Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara, exploring Jewish cultural heritage sites, ancient synagogues, and Jewish quarters. The author noted the careful preservation of historical heritage, the atmosphere of interethnic harmony and the hospitality of the people of Uzbekistan.
A meeting in Bukhara with a local Muslim woman made a special impression on Tanya Munz. After a warm conversation, they took a photo together. According to the author, this moment made her feel that in Uzbekistan she felt completely safe and at peace embracing her Jewish identity.”
Publication became a reflection of the interest of the foreign audience in the cultural heritage of Uzbekistan and the theme of preserving interethnic harmony.
