DOHA, July 17. /Dunyo IA/. Qatar has categorically rejected reports in Israeli media claiming that Doha had agreed to participate in military operations against Iran, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing Al Jazeera.
In a statement, Qatar’s International Media Office said the allegations were being spread by “individuals seeking to draw Qatar into the conflict, to undermine its pivotal role in mediation, and to push the region towards further escalation and chaos.”
Doha stressed that since the outbreak of the conflict between the United States and Iran, it has repeatedly maintained that Qatar “has not participated and will not participate in any military action against any of its neighboring states.”
“Qatar will continue its good offices in coordination with its regional and international partners to reach a comprehensive and sustainable agreement that addresses the concerns of all parties,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi and his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar, during a meeting in Shanghai, called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the swift resumption of negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
“China and Pakistan called on the parties involved to immediately cease hostilities, make efforts to overcome difficulties, eliminate interference, restart contacts, resume dialogue, and strive to reach a comprehensive peace agreement through negotiations,” China’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Earlier, Iran and the United States, with Pakistan acting as mediator, reached a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the conflict and achieving a long-term peace agreement. However, tensions have escalated again in recent days amid developments around the Strait of Hormuz, where the two sides have exchanged strikes.
Despite diplomatic appeals for de-escalation, exchanges of attacks between the United States and Iran continue. Washington has carried out strikes on Iranian infrastructure and port facilities, while Tehran has targeted U.S. military installations in neighbouring countries, including Qatar.
According to Iranian authorities, U.S. strikes on Iranian territory since June 22 have killed 38 people and injured more than 400 others.
The conflict has also affected Iraq’s Kurdistan Region. According to Kurdish sources, eight members of a Kurdish armed opposition group were killed in a strike in the city of Sulaymaniyah on Friday. Representatives of the Kurdish forces accused Iran of carrying out the attack.
