“Dawn” newspaper reports: Uzbekistan emerges as an attractive destination for winter adventure and cultural heritage tourism

ISLAMABAD, January 4. /Dunyo IA/. Pakistan’s leading daily “Dawn” has published an article titled “Snowy peaks and Silk Road secrets: a winter journey through Uzbekistan”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The article notes that while traditional destinations in East Asia remain popular, Uzbekistan has increasingly emerged in recent years as an appealing alternative for travelers seeking winter adventures and a deeper immersion in Islamic history. “Many travelers prefer to spend their winter holidays at the foot of mountains, surrounded by natural beauty. Uzbekistan is becoming an increasingly popular destination for such experiences. The gateway to Central Asia is more accessible than ever, offering a winter experience that is both culturally familiar and geographically spectacular”, - the publication says.

The article highlights that for winter sports enthusiasts, the main attraction is Amirsoy, Uzbekistan’s largest ski resort. Located in the western Tian Shan Mountains at the foothills of the Chatkal range - part of a UNESCO World Heritage site - the resort is just an hour’s drive from Tashkent. Majestic mountain chains, towering peaks, crisp air and snow-covered scenery create a striking atmosphere, clearly explaining Amirsoy’s growing appeal among tourists.

“Amirsoy features high-speed gondolas that take visitors up to 2,290m to ski down the slopes. Even if you aren’t a skier, the “top of the world” views from the peak are worth the trip”, - the author notes.

The article also explores the historical and modern character of Uzbekistan’s capital. According to the author, Tashkent is a city of wide avenues and green spaces, visible even in the colder months. It represents a meeting point of ancient history and contemporary life and stands as one of Uzbekistan’s key tourist destinations.

“As a majority-Muslim country, travellers are spoilt for choice when it comes to finding halal food. You will find yourself gravitating toward Plov, the national rice dish cooked in massive cauldrons with tender lamb and yellow carrots. Other staples like Samsa (flaky meat pastries), Mastava (soup with spiced meat and rice) and Shurpa (a hearty lamb soup) provide the perfect warmth after a day of sightseeing.”, - “Dawn” concludes.
