AMMAN, August 26. /Dunyo IA/. The website of the Jordan Strategy Forum (JSF), an analytical think tank, has published an article titled “Economic Complexity in Jordan: Lessons Learned from Uzbekistan,” examining Uzbekistan’s successful strategy of structural transformation and industrialization, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The publication notes that, as Jordan faces a narrowing export portfolio and a decline in its position in the Global Economic Complexity Index, Uzbekistan has demonstrated one of the most impressive rates of progress worldwide.
According to the study, Uzbekistan has made a significant leap in recent years, rising from 101st to 70th place in the global ranking. The country has also substantially diversified its export structure, adding 70 new product categories, including potash fertilizers, copper pipes, vehicle bodies, internal combustion engines and electricity.
The article highlights that Uzbekistan’s GDP has reached $115 billion, while the share of industry in GDP increased from 19.8 percent to 31.8 percent. The country’s success is attributed to consistent government policies aimed at reducing dependence on raw materials and expanding productive capacity. Long-term projections by Harvard University further confirm the effectiveness of this approach, forecasting average annual economic growth of around 5.4 percent for Uzbekistan through 2034.
Drawing on Uzbekistan’s experience, the Jordan Strategy Forum proposes a phased reform strategy for Jordan’s economy, ranging from modernizing traditional sectors, such as light and food industries and construction materials, to developing sophisticated machinery, electrical engineering and high-tech products.
“Uzbekistan’s experience is of significant practical value to Jordan in terms of systematically diversifying the economy, expanding the range of exports and transitioning to the production of higher value-added goods,” the Jordan Strategy Forum concludes.
