WARSAW, July 25. /Dunyo IA/. Central Asian countries are actively developing aviation infrastructure, seeking to transform the region into an important transport hub between Asia and Europe, reports Dunyo IA correspondent citing the Polish portal “Dziennik-polityczny”.

Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are paying particular attention to this area. Thanks to its advantageous geographical location, Uzbekistan is expanding its air connectivity network and strengthening its position as a regional transport hub. In 2025, the country had 11 international airports in operation, with the largest being Islam Karimov Tashkent International Airport.

Uzbekistan is implementing large-scale projects to modernize the aviation sector. The new international airport in Tashkent, scheduled to be launched in 2029, will be capable of handling up to 20 million passengers and 129 thousand tonnes of cargo annually. The development of airports in Bukhara and Urgench is also planned.

The projects are being implemented with the participation of international investors from Saudi Arabia, Japan and South Korea. At the same time, Uzbekistan continues to liberalize the aviation market: the “open skies” policy is contributing to the emergence of new private airlines, while the authorities are preparing for partial privatization of Uzbekistan Airways.

The growth of tourist flows from China, India and other countries is also strengthening the role of Central Asian airports as transit and tourism centres. The region is gradually becoming part of a new global transport corridor connecting East and West.
