Publication notes that Uzbekistan is shaping its own model of sustainable development, taking into account national priorities, including water and energy security, population employment, social stability, improving the performance of state-owned enterprises and increasing investment attractiveness.
According to the publication, the ESG agenda in the country is developing within the framework of large-scale reforms implemented under the leadership of the President of Uzbekistan. Among the key areas, the “Uzbekistan – 2030” Strategy, the transition to a “green” economy, national sustainable development goals, “green” taxonomy, ESG reporting of state-owned enterprises, social protection and anti-corruption measures are highlighted.
Special attention in the article is paid to the development of the green economy, which is of particular importance for Uzbekistan given water scarcity, climate risks, the consequences of the Aral Sea crisis and the necessity to modernize the energy sector.
Progress in the social sphere is also noted, including poverty reduction, employment expansion, support for women and vulnerable groups of the population, development of mahallas, infrastructure improvement and enhancement of the quality of life.
Particular attention is also being paid to reforming the public sector. According to “China Investment”, by the end of 2025, 17 state-owned enterprises in Uzbekistan had obtained international credit ratings, while seven had received publicly disclosed ESG ratings. The publication notes that this reflects greater transparency and financial discipline, as well as the growing investment attractiveness of state-owned enterprises.
