АSHGABAT, January 26. /Dunyo IA/. A cultural event was held in the capital of Turkmenistan to mark the declaration of 15 December as the World Day of Turkic Languages’ Families, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The event was attended by heads and staff of the diplomatic missions of Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan, representatives of Turkmen civil society as well as members of the media. The Turkmen side was represented by Nursakhet Shirimov, Deputy Minister of Culture.

During the event, speeches were delivered by ambassadors and representatives of the diplomatic missions and video clips featuring national songs from Turkic countries were showcased.

Speaking at the event, a representative of the Embassy of Uzbekistan emphasized that in November 2025, during the UNESCO General Conference held in Samarkand, an important decision was made to designate 15 December as the World Day of Turkic Languages’ Families. The representative noted that this decision constitutes international recognition of the centuries-old cultural and spiritual heritage of Turkic peoples, their rich linguistic traditions and their significant contribution to the development of global civilization.

The event also highlighted the historical role of the land of Uzbekistan in the development of Turkic languages and Turkic thought. In particular, it was emphasized that the work of the great thinker Alisher Navoi elevated the Turkic language to the level of a language of state, literature and philosophy, introducing it into the treasury of world culture. His treatise “Muhokamat al-Lughatayn” was noted for revealing, on a scholarly basis, the artistic and spiritual potential of the Turkic language. It was also reported that this year Uzbekistan is celebrating the 585th anniversary of Alisher Navoi’s birth.

Additionally, the significance of Uzbekistan as one of the centers of Turkic cultural heritage and as the workplace of outstanding scholars, including Mirzo Ulughbek, was emphasized. At his observatory, hundreds of scientific terms were systematized in the Turkic language, making a significant contribution to the development of global scientific thought.

In conclusion, the event noted that Turkic languages are not only a means of communication but also a reflection of the history, mindset, values and spiritual world of the peoples. In the context of modern globalization, the shared responsibility of all Turkic peoples to preserve these languages and pass them on to future generations was underlined.
