WASHINGTON, January 26. /Dunyo IA/. Diplomats from the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United States have carried out consular visits to the Caroline and Farmville immigration detention facilities in the state of Virginia, where they met with citizens of Uzbekistan currently being held at these centres, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
Diplomats assessed the conditions of detention, including health status, overall well-being, nutrition and other day-to-day living arrangements of Uzbek nationals held at the facilities. The citizens of Uzbekistan were also provided with relevant explanations on consular and legal matters.
The detainees reported that, due to their unlawful entry into the United States, legal proceedings are currently under way regarding their deportation. In this context, they requested assistance in facilitating their prompt return to their homeland.
Within the scope of their mandate, the diplomats expressed their readiness to engage in appropriate consultations with the United States authorities on matters related to the return of Uzbek citizens to Uzbekistan as well as to provide practical assistance in the preparation of the necessary consular documentation.
At the same time, in light of recent changes in U.S. immigration policy, citizens of Uzbekistan residing abroad are once again strongly urged to remain in their host countries on a legal basis, strictly comply with local laws and regulations and refrain from any unlawful activities.
