Until the end of March, 11 Uzbek citizens in temporary detention facilities for foreigners to be repatriated from South Korea to their homeland

YEOSU, March 10. /Dunyo IA/. During the blessed month of Ramadan, staff of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Seoul visited a temporary detention facility for foreign nationals in Yeosu, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

During the visit, diplomats met with Uzbek citizens held at the facility, assessed the conditions of their stay and provided necessary consular and legal assistance. Special attention was given to restoring communication between the detainees and their close relatives.

The visit also included a meeting with the facility’s administration to discuss the further development of practical cooperation between the Embassy and the center, aimed at promptly addressing issues faced by Uzbek nationals. The parties exchanged views on establishing emergency communication mechanisms to facilitate meetings involving consuls, lawyers and interpreters.

Additionally, discussions were held regarding the provision of medical and other essential services to citizens, as well as ensuring they can maintain telephone contact with their families. An agreement was reached to timely inform the Embassy about citizens being transferred to deportation centers due to the absence of travel documents.

Currently, the facility houses 11 Uzbek citizens. Embassy staff held individual consular meetings with them and provided necessary legal consultations. Following negotiations with the South Korean authorities, an agreement was reached to repatriate these citizens to Uzbekistan by the end of March this year.
