LONDON, July 21. /Dunyo IA/.  The newly appointed Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Andy Burnham, has announced the updated composition of the Government, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

According to “Deutsche Welle”, the new Cabinet line-up was formally approved by King Charles III.

Under the new appointments, former Defence Secretary John Healey has been appointed as Chancellor of the Exchequer (Finance Minister). In June this year, he stepped down from his previous position, citing concerns over insufficient funding allocated to the defence sector.

Ed Miliband has been appointed as the Foreign Secretary, having previously served as Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero.

Ministry of Defence will be led by Wes Streeting. Prior to his appointment, he served as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, a position he held from July 2024 to May 2026.

Shabana Mahmood will continue to serve as Home Secretary. Born in 1980 to a family of Pakistani origin, she was elected to the House of Commons from the Birmingham Ladywood constituency in the 2010 general election. Alongside Rushanara Ali and Yasmin Qureshi, she became one of the first Muslim women elected to the UK Parliament, marking a historic milestone in British political representation.

In addition, Alex Norris has been appointed as Secretary of State for Justice, Yvette Cooper as Secretary of State for Health, Pat McFadden as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Jonathan Reynolds as Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Trade, and Lucy Powell as Secretary of State for Education.

Heidi Alexander has retained her position as Secretary of State for Transport. Miatta Fahnbulleh has been appointed as Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, Angela Eagle as Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and Angela Rayner as Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government.

Speaking after the formation of the Cabinet, the new Prime Minister identified the country’s reindustrialisation, accelerating economic growth and strengthening national security as the Government’s key priorities.

Andy Burnham assumed the office of Prime Minister on July 20^th. He succeeded Keir Starmer, who resigned amid internal pressure within the Labour Party and following Andy Burnham’s election as the party’s new leader.
