TASHKENT, July 17. /Dunyo IA/. The 2026 FIFA World Cup, being held across the United States, Canada and Mexico, has reached its final stage, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
After more than a month of competition, only two matches remain in the tournament: on July 19, Spain and Argentina will face each other for the title of world champion, while a day earlier France and England will compete for the bronze medals.
These two matches will decide not only the fate of the medals, but also determine the winners of several individual awards, new records and the tournament’s final statistics.
Notably, for the first time in World Cup history, the final will feature the reigning European champions and the winners of the Copa América.
Spain have demonstrated one of the most consistent and tactically disciplined styles of football throughout the tournament. The Spanish team has put opponents under pressure through ball possession, high pressing and quick attacking moves.
Argentina, meanwhile, reached the final thanks to its wealth of experience in major tournaments and its ability to handle pressure in decisive matches. The team has stood out for its rapid transitions from defence to attack and its clinical finishing.
This final could go down in history as a true clash between youth and experience. For Spain, young star Lamine Yamal has become one of the tournament’s biggest revelations. His dribbling, speed and unpredictable actions have created serious problems for opposing defenders.
Argentina, in turn, led by Lionel Messi, has managed to overcome many difficult and crucial matches. The South American team’s mental strength in the final stages of tournaments and its ability to withstand pressure are considered its biggest advantages. Therefore, this final has attracted enormous interest not only as a battle between two national teams, but also as a confrontation between two football generations.
The final and the third-place match could also significantly affect the race for the tournament’s top scorer award. Players from Spain, Argentina, France and England still have a chance to finish as the World Cup’s leading goalscorer thanks to their performances in the final games.
In particular, Messi and Mbappé have scored eight goals each, Kane and Bellingham have six each, while Dembélé and Oyarzabal have five goals apiece. If they can make an impact in the final matches and continue their scoring runs, they will also remain in contention for the Ballon d’Or, awarded to the tournament’s best player.
Many consider the third-place match to be less important. However, the game will give English and French players an opportunity to finish the tournament with a medal and, to some extent, restore the confidence of their supporters after their semi-final defeats.
The final will also produce new historical milestones. Spain could lift their second World Cup trophy, 16 years after their first triumph. Argentina, meanwhile, has the chance to win a second consecutive title and claim the championship for the fourth time in its history.
The final match of the 23rd FIFA World Cup will take place in the early hours of Sunday into Monday, July 19, at 11:55 p.m. Tashkent time at MetLife Stadium in New York. The third-place match will be played on Saturday, July 18, at 2:00 a.m. Tashkent time at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
