Financial Times: Uzbekistan Strengthens Its Position as a Leader in Green Energy in Central Asia

LONDON, June 24. /Dunyo IA/. The Financial Times has published a report titled “How Uzbekistan could liberalize its economy with a push into green energy”, highlighting the country’s rapid development in the renewable energy sector, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The program focuses on Uzbekistan’s ongoing reforms aimed at transitioning to a modern and environmentally sustainable economy. Positioned in the heart of Central Asia, the country is actively responding to rising energy demand, strong economic growth, and the impacts of climate change by prioritizing renewable energy sources.

Thanks to large-scale reforms in the energy sector and the attraction of major international investors such as “ACWA Power” and “Masdar”, Uzbekistan is rapidly expanding its solar and wind power capacity, as well as energy storage systems. In addition, an increasing number of businesses and households are installing solar panels, reducing reliance on traditional energy generation.

The broadcast features interviews with Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, representatives of the International Finance Corporation, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), ACWA Power, Masdar, experts from the Financial Times and the UK-based think tank Chatham House, as well as leaders of major Uzbek companies Samarkand Apparel and BMB Holding.

They outlined the government’s ambitious targets: to generate more than half of the country’s electricity from renewable sources by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. Despite ongoing infrastructure challenges, Uzbekistan aims to become one of the leading green energy hubs in Central Asia and a future exporter of clean energy.
